Why Crustworld?

A bit about the site's author

Crusts Snr. and Jnr.

Crust Senior and Crust Junior. I don't know who to feel more sorry for.

Let me introduce myself. (For those of you who want to bail out into something a lot more interesting, the link to Mr. Gates' page is here.) My name is Jim Christie. I live close to the city of Nottingham with my wife and our two children.

Most of my waking hours are spent behind a computer screen - I am a Network Manager at a local college, responsible for the provision of state-of-the-art ICT services for curriculum delivery and the College's business purposes. In addition, I undertake ad-hoc IT consultancy work.

However, when I'm not shouting at students for vandalizing IT equipment (little scamps!) or advising small companies on how not to implement Active Directory, I can generally be found under one of a series of cars that always seem to find their way onto my drive when they've been mortally wounded. As you can imagine, this goes down very well with my wife. That is unless it's her car on the drive, as has been the case in the past, in which case everything's peachy!

Of course, you could argue that because we live here, her car is always on the drive. Here, have a hair. Now go split it.

When I'm not driving down the road or lying on it; I do DIY on the house and spend time with my family and friends. I also love listening to music and writing.

Yes, I said "writing". Though it rarely goes beyond logon scripts or Group Policy templates for Windows 2003, I have taken my fascination with the sea in general and the Titanic in particular and combined them with a love of the X-files. The result is posted here on the site. Sad, you may think, but was my way of relaxing for a time; just to shut myself away after a hard day with a beer and spend a couple of hours writing with a CD on in the background.

So that's me in a nutshell. But why Crustworld?

Christie is easily bastardised to Krusty (the clown in 'The Simpsons' in case you've led a sheltered life) which in turn becomes 'Crust' - a nickname first given to me by colleagues many, many moons ago (thanks to Geoff Lloyd!) and now a tag I use on the online forums I participate in.

Oh, I hear you cry, somewhat disappointed. But that's it. Take me or leave me. If you're feeling brave, surf my site. If not, Mr Gates awaits. Whoever you are, thank you for taking the trouble to stay awhile.

Best Regards. Jim.
